History:

Biker’s for Foster kids, a not-for-profit organization, was created in 2009.  We held our first annual benefit poker run on September 26, 2009.  Our first benefit run was a huge success as we raised $5600.00, which we used to begin building our store house of supplies for foster kids of San Juan County.

The purpose of our organization is to raise money for foster children and foster parents in our area.  The money raised from this benefit organization provides funds to purchase supplies and necessities for children who are taken into custody by the State of New Mexico, Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD).  These supplies include diapers, formula, clothing, and hygiene supplies, etc.  We store these provisions so they will be on hand for case workers from CYFD, particularly when they have an emergency with a child or foster parent.

Biker’s for Foster Kids was created by a group of bikers in order to help needy children in our community.  There is a stigma that surrounds “Bikers,” we are thought to be bad people by some.  People that seek and destroy always look for trouble and perform unlawful acts.  This just isn’t always true.  We are merely people that share the same passion and love of the open road on motorcycles.  The fact is, most Bikers are the same people you meet everyday in the business world.  We are business owners, CEO’s, waitresses, cooks at your favorite restaurants, mothers and fathers.  Bikers pay taxes just like everyone else.

When ever we get the chance we slip into our black leather and our skull caps, and begin that journey that makes all our hard work worth it with a sweet ride on a long stretch of road.

You probably don’t know this, but Bikers are one of the largest charitable groups of people all year long.  We are sure you’ve probably heard of “Toys for Tots”.  Well, that’s Biker’s that come to the call nationwide annually to help needy children at Christmas time.  Even when it’s freezing cold, we still manage to make the trek, and deliver the toys to the designated destination for the kids.

On any given weekend during the warmer months, you can probably find a group of bikes traveling from one destination to another.  If you were to stop and ask them what they were doing, they are probably participating in a charitable benefit run to raise money for some cause in the community.  We enjoy helping others and giving back as we can.

Biker's Creed:

By Robert Wells, Treasurer

When you drive down the highway and see motorcycles all around, and you see that we wear black on our backs.  There is a reason we wear this dark color on our backs:

B  Believing in kids
Loving kids for who they are and what they can do
Action to do what we can to help the kids
Caring for kids and the community where they live
Kindness because not all bikers are bad

Mission Statement:

This is a non-profit organization and all donations go to benefit the children in state custody from this county.  Bikers in San Juan County want to insure that children and foster families have the necessities to make a difficult transition more bearable for all involved.
